NHS takes to the street to check if the Surrey public are winter ready
The NHS is taking to the shopping centres and community centres in Surrey to ask the public if they are winter ready as part of its annual winter campaign.
Winter puts extra pressure on the NHS, with higher hospital admissions, more flu and Covid cases, and the cold weather making many conditions worse.
That’s why, from this week, NHS Surrey Heartlands is running winter roadshows to help people get ‘winter ready’.
The first of the series of roadshows takes places in Woking shopping centre on Thursday 30 October at Victoria Place Shopping Centre in Woking.
Professor Andrew Rhodes, Joint Chief Medical Officer for NHS Surrey Heartlands, said:
We know winter can be a challenging time for many, from managing long-term conditions in the cold weather to coping with seasonal illnesses like flu and Covid.
Our winter roadshows are about supporting people to feel prepared and confident, with the right information and advice to stay well and make the best use of local NHS services.
The roadshows will also highlight the range of local NHS services available as alternatives to A&E, helping people access the right care, in the right place, at the right time.
Times and dates of the winter roadshows are as follows:
- Thursday 30 October, Woking - Victoria Place Shopping Centre from10am to 2.30pm
- Friday 7 November, Epsom - St Barnabas Church - Advice Café from 10am to 12pm
- Wednesday 19 November - YMCA Horley - Baby Shower Event from 9.30am-12.00pm
- Saturday 22 November, Guildford - The Hive - Action for Carers Event from 10am until 2pm
