Connecting Surrey Heartlands: Our values and what we stand for

Integrity | We do what’s right for ourselves, each other, communities, and our partners

Surrey Heartlands values and behaviours: Integrity

We lead with honesty, transparency, and accountability—owning our actions and staying true to our commitments.

We do this by:

  • Being clear and open – Every decision, action, and rationale is transparent and accessible.
  • Speaking up and standing firm – We create a culture where honesty thrives, and different viewpoints are respected and encouraged.
  • Owning our commitments – We follow through on promises and ensure our actions match our words.
  • Taking responsibility, together – Successes and setbacks belong to all of us—we learn, adapt, and improve.

We don’t:

  • Hide information, make decisions behind closed doors, or withhold reasoning.
  • Avoid difficult conversations.
  • Create spaces where people feel unsafe or uncomfortable speaking up.
  • Shift blame or ignore mistakes instead of learning from them.

Connection | We build trust, strengthen relationships, and make collaboration work everywhere

Surrey Heartlands values and behaviours: Connection

We create an inclusive, collaborative environment where everyone thrives and has the opportunity to contribute.

We do this by:

  • Building bridges, Connecting openly – We collaborate creatively across teams, sectors, and systems to maximise impact.
  • Owning the bigger picture – Every decision we make considers the wider system and community,
  • Joining the dots – We connect people and co-produce data and insights to collaboratively drive meaningful outcomes.
  • Making collaboration work for all – Whether in-person or hybrid, we ensure teamwork thrives.

We don’t:

  • Undermine trust, dismiss perspectives, or work in isolation.
  • Neglect system-wide impact, failing to connect efforts across organisations.
  • Keep information to ourselves or exclude others from decision-making.

Learning | We embrace new ideas and drive meaningful change for better health and care

Surrey Heartlands values and behaviours: Learning

We challenge ourselves to think differently, embrace new ideas, and continuously improve the way we work.

We do this by:

  • Leading change, not waiting for it – actively driving innovation across the system allowing creativity to shape our thinking.
  • Encouraging curiosity and collaboration – investing in ourselves through robust learning and development opportunities
  • Valuing – diverse ideas to tackle complex challenges.
  • Taking informed risks – taking time to learn from successes, setbacks and best practice to improve care.
  • Translating our learning into action – investing time to enable ourselves to make continuous improvements that benefit ourselves, colleagues, patients, and communities.

We don’t:

  • Resist change or rely on how things have always been done.
  • Keep knowledge siloed, preventing progress across the system.
  • Let fear of failure hold back innovation or improvement.

Respect | We value people, nurture talent, and create a culture of belonging and fairness

Surrey Heartlands values and behaviours: Respect

We create a culture where people feel respected, empowered, and recognised for who they are and what they bring.

We do this by:

  • Creating a space where everyone belongs – Psychological safety, respect, and fairness are non-negotiable.
  • Leading with empathy and equity – Every voice matters, and diversity is our strength.
  • Recognising, rewarding, and investing in people – We celebrate achievements and nurture talent to grow.
  • Fostering trust and autonomy – People thrive when they are supported, respected, and empowered.

We don’t:

  • Dismiss voices, feedback, or contributions.
  • Allow environments where people feel unsafe, excluded, or undervalued.
  • Tolerate micromanagement, undermine others’ expertise or limit opportunities for development.
  • Neglect inclusivity, fairness, or the need for equity in leadership and decision-making.
