Weybridge Health Facility

Weybridge Health Facility is bringing back health and community services to the town.

The Weybridge Health Facility programme brings together NHS Surrey Heartlands, NHS Property Services and Elmbridge Borough Council to redevelop the healthcare and community facilities in Weybridge.

About the Weybridge Health Campus

The Weybridge Health Campus is a visionary redevelopment project led by NHS Surrey Heartlands ICB, in partnership with NHS Property Services and other stakeholders. It aims to replace the former Weybridge Community Hospital, which was tragically destroyed by fire in 2017, with a modern, purpose-built health and wellbeing facility that meets the needs of the local community now and into the future.

The new campus will bring together a range of services under one roof, including:

  • The Phoenix Family Practice
  • Maternity care
  • Same-day urgent care
  • Diagnostic services
  • Flexible clinical and community space to support evolving service delivery

The new facility will be a vibrant community hub, designed with flexibility and room for future expansion to meet population growth and evolving healthcare needs.

Engagement Journey

Community engagement has been at the heart of the Weybridge Health Campus project. Since early planning stages, local residents, key stakeholders, and partners have been invited to share their views and help shape the development.

Key Milestones:

  • May 2022 and January 2023: Initial public engagement events introduced early concepts and gathered feedback. The events were very well attended.
  • October 2024: Two in-person engagement events were held at St James’ Parish Centre, Weybridge. Over 130 residents attended, with 39 completing feedback forms. The dedicated website received over 1,000 visits and 66 online responses.

What we heard:

  • 99% of respondents supported the principle of redeveloping the site.
  • Strong support for the building’s design and materials.
  • Calls for more medical rooms and facilities.
  • Concerns about car parking and enforcement.
  • Enthusiasm for increased landscaping and tree planting.
  • Requests for clarity on urgent care services
  • November 2024: A formal planning application was submitted to Elmbridge Borough Council.
  • January–February 2025: Public consultation and re-consultation took place, including feedback from the Lead Local Flood Authority and Surrey County Council. The public consultation closed on 22 January 2025.
  • Community support for the revised plans was invited until 11 June 2025, ahead of the decision by Elmbridge Borough Council’s Planning Sub-Committee in July 2025.
  • June 2025: A revised planning application was submitted, addressing community concerns, particularly around access via Portmore Way. The new design includes pedestrian and cycle access via Footpath 20, preserving local routes and responding to feedback
  • July 15 2025, Elmbridge Borough Council approved planning permission for the development of Weybridge Health Campus, subject to a number of conditions with an extension requested by the Planning Officer until 15 October to work through the associated legal contracts before final approval.
  • July 2025 - NHS Surrey Heartlands and NHSPS approved the Short Form Business Case relating to this project at their respective boards; which was submitted to NHS England for approval and finally to the Department of Health and Social Care.
  • November 2025 – Funding and full planning approved. Preparatory construction works began.
