Last chance to get your Spring Covid-19 booster

The NHS in Surrey is reminding those eligible to get their spring Covid-19 booster before the seasonal campaign ends in June.
Less than half (49%) of those eligible in Surrey have had their booster since the start of the campaign in April. With only two weeks remaining the NHS is encouraging the remaining eligible public to get booked in as soon as possible.
Over 140,000 people are eligible for the Covid-19 spring booster vaccination in Surrey Heartlands, this includes adults aged 75 and over, residents in care homes for older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
The booster provides vital protection against different strains of the Covid-19 virus and helps to reduce the risk of serious illness and hospitalisation.
UKHSA surveillance data relating to last spring’s programme shows that those who received a vaccine were around 45% less likely to be admitted to hospital with Covid-19 from 2 weeks following vaccination, compared to those who remained unvaccinated.
Dr Charlotte Canniff, Surrey GP and Joint Chief Medical Officer at Surrey Heartlands Integrated Care Board, said:
“It is not uncommon to see less people come forward for their booster over the Spring and Summer months. As the weather gets warmer, its naturally not at the forefront of people’s minds.
“However, Covid-19 is still circulating, and it is important that vulnerable people are protected so that their risk of becoming seriously unwell is reduced.”
Thousands of daily appointments are available at pharmacies and GP practices across the region, with walk-in appointments also offered at various locations.
The Spring vaccination campaign closes on 17 June 2025.
