Meningitis cases in Kent
We are extremely sad to hear of the meningitis outbreak in Canterbury and subsequent deaths.
Along with partners, we are monitoring the situation closely.
The UK Health Security Agency is providing regular updates.
There are currently no cases in Surrey or Sussex.
As a reminder, symptoms of meningitis and septicaemia can include:
- Severe and worsening headache
- Sudden onset of high fever
- Stiff neck
- Vomiting and diarrhoea
- Joint and muscle pain
- Dislike of bright lights
- Very cold hands and feet
- A rash that does not fade when pressed with a glass
- Seizures
- Confusion or delirium
- Extreme sleepiness or difficulty waking
If you or someone you know develops symptoms of meningitis or septicaemia, seek medical help urgently by going to the nearest Accident and Emergency department or calling 999.
