NHS reminds the vulnerable and over 75s to get their Covid vaccine this winter

Carehome resident Lynne Jose and vaccinator Nadine Schirmer

COVID-19 is more serious in older people and in individuals who are immunosuppressed.

For these reasons, people aged 75 years and over, residents in older adult care homes, and those aged over 6 months who are immunosuppressed are being offered a COVID-19 vaccine this winter.

The vaccination programme is targeted at those at high risk of the complications of COVID-19 infection, who may have not been vaccinated for a few months.

As the number of COVID-19 infections may increase over the colder months, a booster may help to reduce the risk of becoming seriously ill or being admitted to hospital with COVID-19.

COVID-19 and flu are currently circulating at high levels, so NHS Surrey is reminding anyone who is eligible to get their Covid-19 jab. The vaccine is safe and provides vital protection against serious illness.

We have a number of walk-in clinics offering the Covid-19 vaccine available in local communities across Surrey. More details can be found on the Alliance for Better Care website.

In addition to the walk-in clinics you can book a COVID-19 vaccination appointment online or in the NHS App (if you're aged 5 years or over).

Some people may be able to get vaccinated at their community pharmacy or a GP surgery. Most importantly, you do not need to wait for an invitation before booking an appointment.

The last date you will be able to get your COVID-19 vaccine is 31 January 2026 and online booking will close on 30 January 2026.

Dr Charlotte Canniff, Surrey Heartlands Joint Medical Officer said:

I would encourage anyone who is eligible to get their Covid-19 vaccine.

Vaccines continue to be one of the most effective ways to protect against viruses. We know viruses spread more easily during the winter months, so by topping up your protection you can reduce the risk of becoming seriously ill.

It is so easy to get protection this winter, so if you are eligible for the Covid-19 jab, book today.
