North West Surrey Alliance team shortlisted for Nursing Times award

North West Surrey Alliance’s Integrated Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) team have been shortlisted for the Infection Prevention and Control Award at this year’s Nursing Times Awards 2023.

The Nursing Times Awards bring together the nursing community to shine a light on the brightest talent in the profession and recognise those who make nursing innovative, patient-focused and inclusive. There are 23 categories in total, which cover a wide range of nursing specialities, including mental health, social care, children’s services, and primary care.

The NWS Alliance Integrated IPC team was established in 2021 and is made up of staff working across both Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and CSH Surrey.

Their work has focused on aligning the IPC patient pathway in North West Surrey through the Acute Trust, community hospitals and also over 100 care homes since 2022. The aim has been to reduce avoidable infections in the care environment, support safe and timely discharge from hospital and support patient flow across the system as a whole to ensure safe care for North West Surrey residents.

Denise Thiruchelvam, Executive Lead for Quality and Governance for NWS Alliance and Chief Nurse and Director of Quality for CSH Surrey, said:

The last few years have truly shown us just how important robust Infection Prevention and Control processes and pathways are when caring for our communities. The amazing work the Integrated IPC team have done since their inception during the pandemic is making care safer for all residents accessing these health and social care services across North West Surrey.

I am thrilled the team have received this recognition and wish them the best of luck in the upcoming awards.

Jack Wagstaff, Place Leader and Alliance Chief Officer for NWS Alliance, said:

A huge congratulations to the team on being shortlisted for this award for their work across North West Surrey. It is fantastic to see these colleagues acknowledged for the work they are doing to ensure safer care for those accessing or working across the acute and community services we provide.

The winners will be announced during the award ceremony in London, on Wednesday 25th October 2023.
